Higher Education

NetSpot understands the culture of universities and is sympathetic to their mission. Our vast experience and familiarity with the sector sets us apart from many organisations and enables us to form highly effective working relationships with universities, both at a management level and at a technical level.

NetSpot’s Founder, Allan Christie, was a senior university academic before establishing NetSpot in 1998. As a Fellow and current member of the executive of ASCILITE (Australasian Society for Computers in Learning in Tertiary Education), Allan has worked closely with the university community for the last 20 years.

While it’s true that we have vast experience in supporting enterprise-level elearning systems in Australasia, importantly, our experience is grounded in a history of work with universities with whom we have developed a strong cultural affinity. Therefore, NetSpot’s services are both expert and education specific.

This understanding of Higher Education and its culture has been transferred to all NetSpot staff and this has been an important part of the ongoing success of NetSpot. Today NetSpot supports ASCILITE, HERDSA, ACODE, CADAD and others as part of our commitment to this sector in Australasia.

The University of Canberra

As part of an overarching LMS Renewal Project, the University of Canberra decided to
adopt Moodle as its primary Learning Management System (LMS). Their decision to
choose Moodle was based on the student-centred nature of the online learning
environment and its national and international recognition as being one of the easiest
to use systems.

As Moodle is open source software, its use as the primary LMS provides educational institutions like the University of Canberra with the freedom to customise their own online learning environment in a user-friendly way. The software itself is also supported by a strong community of educational practitioners and developers, providing valuable additional support channels for staff during the transition.

Along with their decision to implement Moodle, the University co-sourced the management of the new LMS with official Moodle Partner, NetSpot. NetSpot provided an enterprise class service which was cost effective, and significantly mitigated the risks associated with changing platforms, whilst enabling the institution to focus on its core mission. The NetSpot helpdesk was also able to reduce the strain on internal staff who needed to gain Moodle knowledge rapidly.
