Configuration Workshops
NetSpot's configuration workshop helps organisations make the most of
their Moodle environment. As an experienced Moodle Partner, NetSpot can
help users understand Moodle's potential and clarify configuration
requirements.
Moodle's simplicity and ease of use for administrators, course designers and educators often means that a learning environment can be deployed quickly and have users up and running without the need for extensive training. What many users find as they start to gain an understanding of Moodle is that there are a large number of potential configurations, extensions and other variables possible in any Moodle deployment, and ignoring these early in an implementation project can lead to delays as the project progresses, or an environment that fails to meet the needs of the organisation.
Reduce time-to-deployment
Identifying and resolving critical change management issues in functional comparison between your legacy learning management systems and Moodle can be difficult without a deep understanding of what Moodle can offer. The NetSpot Moodle Configuration Workshop can reduce time-to-deployment by covering a range of common areas that require consideration, as well as ensuring that Moodle is used to its full potential through appropriate configuration. The ultimate aim of the configuration process is to create a Moodle environment that fulfils the main requirements of a Learning Management System.
Ease of use - create an environment which is logical, well structured, and easy to use for students, teacher, course developers and administrators.
Reliability & stability – create an environment which uses only quality code which can be relied on to not only provide a stable platform now, but also to be maintainable in future upgrades.
Supports pedagogy – include the right tools to support the learning and teaching requirements of the specific environment, including recommending complementary tools for Moodle.
Security – ensuring that all information and functionality is appropriately secured, and made available only to those who should have access.
Administrative efficiency – ensuring that wherever information can be re-used via integration, then it is used to reduce the administrative overhead of the system.
Approach to Moodle Configuration
The configuration workshop is delivered in a minimum one day on-site
engagement, and aims to identify the specific requirements of a client's Moodle
implementation. These workshops are often invaluable in refining the broader
requirements of an LMS implementation, with Moodle at the core of the
deployment strategy.
These requirements are then compared to the functionality available in a base
Moodle installation, and evaluated within a framework of typical implementation
strategy options such as configuration, code customisation and integration with
other systems.
Configuration Report
Upon completion of the configuration workshop, the client is presented with a
configuration report, including information such as:
- The critical configuration decisions identified, based on client need, and how
these should be implemented in practice
- Areas within the project which require more consideration before a
configuration recommendation can be made
- Identified extensions (plugins or customisations) to Moodle, including any
which may already exist within the Moodle community
- Recommendations for next steps in the Moodle implementation process.
Who should attend?
Ideally, the workshop should include representatives covering the following
responsibilities within the organisation:
- Business Owners
- Implementation Project Managers
- Teaching and Learning Representatives
- Administrators
- Technical support staff
Customer Spotlight
The Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) selected NetSpot and partners The
Learning Edge International (TLEI) and Wimba to provide support for the introduction of the institute's new integrated eLearning solution, "eLearn".
As lead contractor for the engagement, NetSpot delivered a Configuration Workshop to ensure the project would be delivered to the expectations of CIT. This upfront assessment of the needs of the Institute, helped to ensure an efficient and successful Moodle implementation.
