Specific Benefits

Adoption of the Voice Tools has had benefits in two key areas of the work of the Training and Development Unit:

Duncan O'Hara

In respect to the ECDF project - we're able to bring together a whole lot of different people from different locations across New Zealand at one point in time. This is a nifty way to connect people - having met once - it's nice to be able to get online, sit back and just talk to one another. This is a social option to get a more dynamic interaction - prior to this we were using discussion boards which were text based. "they really enjoyed the voice direct sessions - people said 'wow - that was really great - like having a cup of coffee - it was relaxed - they were really excited about the possibility of talking to people they'd only met in text form"

The second area of the Voice Tools implementation addressed what we wanted to show them in particular: professional development modules on collaboration - how you can enhance the teaching and learning experience using the tools which are available. And so what we would demonstrate there is how the Wimba tools can be used in conjunction with WebCT and other learning management systems. So we move past the social element and see how the tools are practical for teaching and learning.
