Moodle 2.0 represents the largest single change to the Moodle platform since its initial release in 2002. Moodle 2.0 combines a vast number of 'under the hood' changes to the software, as well as introducing several new features to end users. Since then, Moodle has continued to pave the way as a leading edge learning management system with version 2.1 released and 2.2 due in December 2011, the new versions provide further enhancements for users and developers.

Users can also receive messaging and notifications, (only available with version 2.1 +).

  • Effective tracking of course work - simple implementation of 'conditional activities' can be used to create learning paths which enables effective tracking of a student's progress over time, reducing the burden on instructors and administrators.

  • Share and re-use content – contains an updated file management and repository systems that reduce storage requirements throughout Moodle, easily share and re-use content.

  • Interact with user communities - known as 'community hubs', users in different communities are able to share information and courses.

  • Social Media integration - easy integration with online tools such as YouTube, Google Docs, Flickr.
